Foil Radiant Barrier
Dallas Foil Radiant Barrier Contractor
Radiant barriers consist of materials that are installed in homes and buildings to reduce summer heat gain and winter heat loss, as well as reduce residential or commercial heating and cooling energy usage. The potential benefit of attic radiant barriers is primarily in reducing air-conditioning cooling loads in warm or hot climates.
When the sun heats a roof it's primarily the suns radiant energy that makes the roof hot. A large portion of this heat travels by conduction through the roofing materials to the attic side of the roof. The hot roof material then radiates its gained heat energy into the cooler attic (some of the roofs heat will radiate in other directions too). A radiant barrier reduces the radiant heat transfer from the roof to the attic space.
Another aspect of radiant barriers are important when the air handler or air-conditioning ducts are installed in the attic space. The roof applications of radiant barriers can result in lowered air temperatures within the attic space, which in turn can reduce heat gains by the air flowing through the ducts, thus increasing the efficiency of the air-conditioning system.

Foil Radiant Barrier Super R Plus is a radiant barrier foil that is two-sided reflecting 99% pure aluminum foil with woven polyethylene. It is clean, lightweight and very strong foil for use in new or retrofit homes. Super R Plus has an emissivity of 0.03 which means it reflects 97% of infrared energy off the roof. In most cases radiant barrier is applied in the attic roof to the underside of the rafters leaving a gap between roof and the foil to allow the heat to be directed out of the attic threw the ventilation. Foil radiant barrier will not provide nest support for rodent or insect pests and will not build up dust like radiant barrier applied to the attic floor over the insulation which will cause the foil to loose its reflectivity over time. Applying foil radiant barrier will help lower the temperature in your attic and reduce the heat that circulates around your heating and cooling unit and or duct system. This will help your heating and cooling unit work as efficient as possible. Foil radiant barrier will also help reduce the heat that enters your home threw the attic envelope (Example: light & exhaust penetrations, attic entrances). |
